Yes, some are. If your laser is within a specific wavelength, pulse duration, and power level range, you can change to a different model.
However, changes in wavelength may require changes to the beam delivery optics. Suppose you have a beam transmission mirror that is most suitable for infrared, and you want to change to a laser beam with ultraviolet light. This change may require replacement of the beam delivery optics.
Why change the wavelength (color) of the laser being used? This is related to how the laser interacts with the material. You want the laser power to be absorbed by the material to heat the material. The absorption of the material depends on the wavelength of the laser, so for best results, the absorption of the material and the wavelength of the laser must match.
Have you noticed how to sit behind glass on a sunny day without getting sunburned? That's because the glass is absorbing ultraviolet rays. Fortunately, the sun's UV intensity is relatively low, so glass will not be cut.
When using a laser to cut glass, one may wish to use ultraviolet radiation so that the glass absorbs all the laser energy. The laser also allows high power to be focused on a small spot, so small that the concentrated heat will cause the glass to melt. Different materials require different laser and optics mirrors, adjust the machine configuration to achieve the desired effect.
